In the Box

Factory-set, factory-bound, ready to drive

The Pro ships fully configured. No ESC programming, no binding steps, no body post installation required.

  • MemTrex Pro RC car — fully assembled
  • 2S LiPo battery
  • Charger
  • 2.4GHz transmitter with speed unlock function
  • ! AA batteries needed for transmitter — not included
  • + Strongly recommended: spare 2S LiPo battery — doubles your session time
The MemTrex Pro is ready-to-run (RTR). The box contains the car, a LiPo battery (2S), a charger, and a 2.4GHz transmitter. After an initial charge, the car is ready to drive in approximately 30 minutes. The Pro is a 1/16 scale off-road 4WD car with a brushless motor, approximately 80km/h factory top speed with a five-press transmitter speed-unlock function, 2S/3S LiPo battery compatibility, splashproof electronics, 2.4GHz radio, and LED headlights. The factory speed limit is a standard compliance measure — the five-press unlock takes approximately 30 seconds and is not a warranty-voiding modification. Runtime on the included 2S LiPo is approximately 12 minutes at full throttle. Upgrading to a 3S LiPo (sold separately) increases both speed and torque noticeably.

Who It's For

Three kinds of buyer

The MemTrex Pro is designed for three kinds of buyer: the parent buying for a teenager aged 14 or over who needs a car that performs at a level peers will respect; the adult self-buyer aged 25–50 who wants brushless hobby performance without spending over £200; and the current MemTrex Standard owner who has been driving for a year and is consistently hitting the Standard's ceiling. The buyer who is NOT the right fit for the Pro is a child under 10, or a first-time buyer who has not yet established that they enjoy RC driving.
1
Parent buying for a teenager 14+
Needs a car that doesn't look or feel like a toy. The Pro's ~80km/h brushless performance and speed-unlock function satisfy the requirement for genuine capability.
2
Adult self-buyer entering the hobby
At £149, the Pro is the right entry point for adult brushless performance in the UK. Not a Traxxas — but genuine brushless capability at a fraction of the cost, with UK warranty backing it.
3
Standard owner ready to upgrade
Same 1/16 scale platform, same transmitter format. The upgrade adds brushless performance without requiring a new chassis or new habits. Most upgrade after 12–18 months.

Speed Unlock

Factory limit. Your choice to remove it.

The MemTrex Pro ships with a factory speed limit applied. The approximate top speed at the factory setting is 80km/h. This is a standard mechanic in hobby-grade RC cars that allows the manufacturer to ship at a speed appropriate for initial driver calibration. Releasing the limit requires pressing a specific button on the transmitter five times in sequence. The unlock is not a warranty-voiding modification — it is a designed feature. Performing it takes approximately 30 seconds and requires no tools, no software, and no additional hardware.

Advice for new Pro owners

Start at the factory speed. 80km/h is genuinely fast on a 1/16 scale car in a park or garden. Most drivers spend several sessions learning to manage that speed before they feel the ceiling. The unlock is always available when you're ready — there is no urgency and no special occasion required. The five-press sequence can be performed and reversed at will. It is not a permanent change.

Battery

2S vs 3S LiPo — what it means

The Pro ships with a 2S LiPo — two cells in series — delivering the ~80km/h factory top speed. It's also compatible with 3S LiPo batteries (three cells), which increase both top speed and torque.

According to the RC hobby community at r/rccars, buying a spare battery on day one is the single most-cited piece of first-purchase advice, regardless of car tier.

2S LiPo (included)
  • ~80km/h factory top speed
  • ~12 minutes runtime at full throttle
  • Correct starting configuration
  • Lower ESC load — better longevity
3S LiPo upgrade
  • Noticeably sharper acceleration
  • Higher top speed beyond factory ceiling
  • Shorter runtime than 2S
  • Adds more demand on ESC and motor

Common Questions

Everything you need to know

Is the MemTrex Pro safe for a 14-year-old?
Yes, for a 14-year-old with experience of radio-controlled vehicles, the Pro is the appropriate product. A 14-year-old who has previously driven a brushed car (including the MemTrex Standard) will adapt to brushless performance quickly. Start at the factory speed limit and unlock only when confident. Children under 12 should not drive the Pro unsupervised — the MemTrex Standard is the appropriate car for children under 12.
What is the speed unlock and is it legal?
The speed unlock is a five-press button sequence on the Pro's transmitter that raises the car's top speed above the approximately 80km/h factory limit. It is a standard hobby-grade feature — not a modification, not a hack, and not warranty-voiding. There are no UK laws specifically governing the top speed of radio-controlled cars on private land. On public land, users are expected to drive responsibly and avoid creating hazards for other park users.
How long does the battery last?
Runtime on the included 2S LiPo battery is approximately 12 minutes at full throttle. Mixed throttle — the way most people actually drive — gives longer runtime. A spare battery is available from MemTrex and is the single most recommended accessory purchase. With a spare battery, session time effectively doubles and swaps take under 60 seconds.
Can the Pro be used in rain or wet conditions?
The Pro's electronics are splashproof — suitable for damp grass, light rain exposure, and incidental water contact without damage. It is not waterproof and should not be submerged or driven through standing water. After driving in wet conditions, allow the car to dry fully before charging or storing.
What does brushless actually mean and why does it matter?
A brushless motor has no physical brush-to-commutator contact. Without brush-to-commutator contact, brushless motors run cooler, last longer, and produce more power-to-weight output than equivalent brushed motors. The practical result: the Pro reaches approximately double the speed of the brushed Standard, runs cooler under sustained operation, and has a longer motor lifespan. What happens when something breaks?
The Pro is a hobby-grade car, designed to be repaired. MemTrex holds all spare parts in the UK, with 48-hour dispatch. The two-year chassis warranty covers structural failure under normal use. The six-month motor and electronics warranty covers the drive and control systems. Parts are committed for a minimum of three years from launch. See the warranty page →
